Oxford... or Cambridge. The UK is calling.
And then, there's the exchange rate on the British Pound...
This week I have a new article posted to the Business Insider site:
And no, that’s not Susan in the photo. As of today she has been accepted at both Oxford University, and Cambridge University, in the UK. The planning for an actual move feels like a day in the park - we’ve moved a lot in recent years - but the financial hit is substantial.
Despite being born in the UK, and living and working there til age 30, Susan is considered a foreign applicant, and consequently the tuition will be somewhere in the range of £40,000. Per year.
Obviously we’re looking at options to reduce that, and/or at what we can sell off to afford it.
In the meantime, we’ve launched a GoFundMe page which is thankfully already attracting attention and donations.
Needless to say there will be more details as things progress.
Good thing neither of us “retired” at 65.
Hi again Barry! Saw your story on Study Hall and donated: as a former academic now in early retirement, I can’t begin to say what joy it brought me to see this. Would you consider creating a Substack dedicated solely to supporting your wife through this incredible — and frankly inspiring — journey of going back to university in her late 70s? It would draw much-deserved attention to your cause and I’m sure be an amazing read
