I’m just touching base. In the last week or two Substack, the home for this newsletter, has finally gone so pro-Nazi that I feel I do need to move to somewhere else.
By “pro-Nazi” I mean sending out promotional campaign emails encouraging people to subscribe to a newsletter with literal Hitler Nazi slogans and logos on it. LITERALLY. And Substack has been explicit that they really have no problem with this sort of thing.
A lot of very bright people have been encouraging a move like this on many platforms. All of them describe it as easy-peasy, with the default option seeming to be ButtonDown.
What I think that I have learned is that ButtonDown’s concierge service will happily get your archives, subscribers, and subscription data moved over, but as far as I can now tell, they only provide a back end - not the public-facing front end.
I’ve been using the Internet since 1993, so yes I’ve done my time in trenches of back-end development. Now though I was hoping for something easy.
I’ll keep you posted.
