To those who say that COVID-19 is a thing in the past, or is just like a bad cold, or isn’t dangerous any longer: get stuffed.
Anyhow, it took a week and half, but I am mobile and conscious again. But first….
For Asparagus Magazine, week before last, Susan and I jointly authored an article about the wonderful French supports to encourage housing energy-efficiency. It’s still print only (!) but you can read it at my writing web-site.
For the Globe and Mail last week I wrote about what do do with the small inheritance coming from the sale of my mother’s home in Kelowna. If you get stopped by the Globe paywall you can read it at my site.
COVID-19 is almost universally presented these days as old news. Do not accept that framing.
I have never been so sick, for so long. Nearly two weeks and I am just getting back to a regular routine.
Here’s a brief run-down on symptoms:
Fever
Coughing. Intense coughing
Aches, pains everywhere
INTENSE sweating, drenched bedsheets every day and night
Loss of appetite
Headaches
Physical shivering and sometimes intense shaking
Sleeping for full days
Dizziness and balance problems
Weakness
Language problems, difficulty talking
Urinary problems: wetting one’s self.
Inability to sleep
Lack of appetite.
Some happened once, some recurred, some went for days on end. It was an emotional and physical roller-coaster like I have never experienced.
As I speak COVID numbers are climbing everywhere in the northern world. I expect that as winter sets in they will jump again, possibly badly.
My decision for this year is to return to masking everywhere, all of the time, and to avoiding unsafe contact with other people. Once in Nova Scotia next week I will be happy to stay at home, order on-line, and avoid human contact.
And in the spring, we’ll see, but I am mindful that every new wave of COVID-19 has been worse than the one that preceded it.
