Update: We're at the actually pretty nice Best Western in Liverpool. However the power went out at 7:30 this morning, leaving us to rely of flashlights and stairwells.
Strangely no offer of a reduced price.
The generator is keeping the lights on at the reception desk, and in the breakfast room, but aside from emergency lighting that's it.
According to NS Power much of the Liverpool area is now without power. It is of course anyone's guess how many days it will take to get things restored. If past history is a guide, I’d expect a day or two - or more - before it’s back.
The actual bulk of Lee (Hurricane, Tropical storm, whatever) has yet to arrive. We're already seeing high winds and pelting rain. it seemed pretty bad overnight, and stepping outside the hotel door this morning one was blasted by strong winds.
Predictions for the tip of Western Head say 100+ kmh winds and the storm surge predictions say 8 to 12 metre waves, breaking 4 to 6 metres for coastlines exposed to waves from the south.
First high tide: 6 A.M. to 10 A.M. Saturday.
Second high tide: 7 P.M. Saturday to 11 P.M. Saturday.
Here’s what Environment Canada is saying:
What all of this means is that our little house is probably getting battered pretty bad, and I fear that our ancient roof will do even worse.
And the storm hasn't even hit land yet.
Still, we cleared everything out of the yards that could be snatched up by wind, and closed all of the windows. We have a generator for power, and sump pump in the basement that I fear we’ll wind up using.
And, of course, what happens when your old oil furnace gets drowned under three feet of water?
So we’re sitting in our hotel room, watching Emily in Paris using my cel phone hotspot, and waiting for our batteries to run out.
And I still have storm chips!
